The Tapawera 62nd Annual Show

The 62nd Tapawera country show was a great South Island country experience!

Held 40mins drive out of Nelson central, the show is an annual highlight for the friendly locals.

The shearing championships were held on the day. With the finals culminating in 20 sheep being shorn by each finalist in under 18 minutes, that is 1 sheep in less than a minute!

The wild Tapawera Shrek had a lifetime of wool sheared by the annual champ. Here is a before and after.

Some old and even older vehicles were on show.

And to top the day off, a massive lolly scramble South Island style. Check the video below. Yes, that is a chopper raining lollies!

Old to new!

We found a couple of great old photos of the house we have now come to call home.

Here is one of the original occupants (children and dog), circa 1920's.

And one of us Owens, January 2008!

Made it!

Cruising on the Desert Road

We have arrived, and sunny Nelson is already turning it on for us. Saturday Nelson markets today, biking and swimming at Tahunanui Beach. Oh, plus just a bit of unpacking and picture hanging - yawn!

The house is something else; ancient and HUGE! Loads of character. Enchanting gardens, overlooking the Cathedral north, 3 mins walk into town. Very happy here. Flynn and Ronan are having full and interesting days discovering their new home and smaller town life.

We had a fun trip down. Auckland – Rotorua – Wellington. Found this a-mazing spooky cafe in the middle of nowhere, outside Bulls. They have a 'Corn Evil' Horror Maze! Almost lost the cat in Lyall Bay, Wellington. She escaped from our friends apartment, 5 mins before we had to leave their house for the early morning ferry crossing. Caught her (and the ferry) in the end!

Approaching Picton

Thanks for your emails, keep them coming. We'll post some photos of us in our new locale
